Reverse Auction prospects:
The Silks Reverse Auction horses being offered this week are potential stars in the making! One is a son of the best stallion in North America out of an excellent female family who was offered in the prime time book one of the 2022 Keeneland September sale. The second exciting two-year-old prospect is a unique offering as the colt is by a star stallion in the making who tragically passed away before his full potential could shine.
Into Mischief – Ever So Clever colt
There are a ton of promising young stallions doing their thing here in early 2023 but one stands above all others and his name is Into Mischief. The leading stallion for the last four consecutive years, including last year when his progeny earned in excess of $28 million dollars, breaking his own record. Last month he outdid himself with three Kentucky Derby prospects winning graded stakes on the same day, a feat unparalleled in modern times. We could write ten more pages of plaudits but suffice to say that Into Mischief is the man and adding a son of his to your horse portfolio could be considered a ‘must do’ Game of Silks maneuver.
This particular colt being offered, is out of a young grade 3 winning Medaglia D’Oro mare named Ever So Clever who was raced by her breeder Clearsky Farm with trainer Steve Asmussen. Clearsky did not put this mare up for auction and chose to retain her for their own broodmare band, always a positive sign. Among the notable names that have been bred by Clearsky Farms was Breeders Cup Classic and Dubai World Cup winner Arrogate. This colt was offered for sale in the prestigious book one of the 2022 Keeneland Sale however the owners would not accept a bid less than $400,000 for him and instead decided to keep him. He should prove very popular and waiting too long to pull the trigger might cause you to miss out on one of the best prospects that Game of Silks has offered via the auction process.
Laoban – Aristra colt
The Crown Jewel of American yearling sales is Fasig Tipton Saratoga, an annual August tradition held in conjunction with the prestigious race, the hallowed grounds just a few hundred yards south of the sales ring. Only the proverbial ‘cream of the crop’ are Saratoga Sale yearlings as the auction house is very particular about pedigree and the physical standards they demand from any yearling to be offered here. If this were a fashion show, only supermodels need apply. To put it in a numerical perspective, the average sale price of the 143 yearlings that changed hands was $468,217, by far the strongest of all North American yearling sales.
Last August only 218 yearlings made the cut, and of that number just 13 were New York breds like this Laoban-Aristra colt. What makes him particularly unique is that of the New York breds, he was the only one that was by a horse that stood in New York when this colt was conceived, making him eligible for the lucrative NY stallion series stakes in addition to the general NY bred racing and stakes program.
Aristra, this colt is from a winning bloodline with a lot of confidence behind him as represented by his $300,000 purchase price - very, very strong for a horse from a regional program. The purchaser, Whitehorse Farm does both pinhooking and racing so it’s possible that this guy will go through another auction ring in a two year old in training sale this spring. In either case, this is a very good prospect for Silks owners looking for a horse to race on the NYRA circuit or perhaps as a syndication prospect if he resells for even bigger money in an upcoming sale.
